About the Photographer
Alex Lotha was born and raised in the embrace of Wokha, Nagaland. He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in History with honours from Mt. Tiyi College, Wokha. A fervent and self-taught photographer, he continuously explores diverse photography genres and acquire novel techniques every day. He is a passionate photographer, yes, but more than that – a conductor of human emotions, an interpreter of life’s fleeting moments and elevates ordinary moments to extraordinary art. His journey, spanning memorable and challenging instances, has been marked by an ongoing commitment to learning and growth.
A Humble Beginnings
Hailing from modest beginnings, Alex defied adversity from the outset. Born into a world where dreams often yield to financial constraints, he chose a different narrative. His passion for photography burned brighter than any obstacle. “Coming from a poor background, my parents lacked the financial means to support my dreams, but my passion and love for photography didn’t stop me from pursuing my photographic journey, despite the challenges and obstacles I encountered along the way,” he recounts, “ I have faced a lot of hardships and struggles till date, since there’s no one to support me financially, I worked part time in several organizations and performed various errand jobs to save up enough money to purchase my first camera which was Sony Cybershot. It actually begins from my college days, where I would click their pictures (college friends) print and sell to them. Then gradually I upgraded to canon 1300D which was my first DSLR camera, with that I started my official career in photography. Most importantly I thank God for his endless love towards me, it’s through his grace he has brought me thus far as to where I am today.” Resolute and undeterred, Alex faced life’s challenges head-on, working myriad part-time jobs, navigating hardship, all for a singular goal—to own his first camera. With unyielding determination, he saved every penny, eventually acquiring a Sony Cybershot. This marked the birth of a vision that would soon captivate hearts. And so, with the heart of a dreamer, he embarked on a journey where obstacles were mere stepping stones.
Awakening Through Memories
In the digital age, memories are cherished through fleeting photographs. Yet, it was an absence, a missing link, that sparked Alex’s epiphany. His journey began in his college days, as he turned the pages of his family’s photo album, a realization gripped him. He noticed there weren’t any good photos of his childhood days, and in those moments, he realized the value of capturing memories. He realized that no matter how much money or valuable things he has, he can’t bring back the memories that have slipped away with time. This realization hit him hard and made him understand how important photography is. Right then, he made a decision to be a photographer. “At that precise juncture I made the decision to pursue a career as a photographer, with the intention of capturing not only the special moments in my own life but also for others. I didn’t have the opportunity to go to a reputed photography institute, but that didn’t stop me. I used the internet, asked my photographer friends for help, and relied on YouTube as my main teacher. It wasn’t easy, but I worked really hard, trying things out and learning from my mistakes. That’s how I began my journey of mastering the skill and art of photography” says Alex.
A Glimpse into the Heart of Moments
As the years unfolded, his passion blossomed into a career. In the kaleidoscope of emotions that weddings, birthdays, and events bring, Alex discovered his calling. “At first, it was just my passion,” he shares, “but over time, I began to recognize the potential to transform this into a career, realizing that it had the capacity to generate a substantial income. In the year 2019,I Officially started to shoot weddings, birthday parties and various other events“. With each click of his camera, he wove memories, crafting legacies that would be cherished for generations.
Social media became his platform, a stage where he showcased his artistry. “It started from my family and friend circle,” he explains, and through the magic of platforms like Instagram and Facebook, his reach expanded. He adds “As we are living in a high-tech era where we can take the advantage of technology by making use of social media platforms. I personally believe that social media is the best platform to promote and grow our business not only in the realm of photography but even other business too”. Through pixels and captions, he built bridges of connection, turning acquaintances into supporters, and supporters into a community.
An Unconventional Education
In a world where conventional institutions chart careers, Alex sought knowledge in unconventional ways. The internet, a steadfast friend, was his gateway to learning. Through the guidance of photographer friends and the inexhaustible wellspring of YouTube, he embarked on a self-taught journey. “I used to watch numerous YouTube tutorial and follow the work of talented photographers worldwide, which motivated me to continuously enhance and refine my skills. Additionally, I keep in touch with my fellow Paparazzi friends to exchange photography ideas and maintain motivation. What I am doing today is a dream that I was dreaming few years back so I believe that I have achieved something but I still have a long way to go” shares Alex. Today, the most heartwarming aspect is that he now runs his own YouTube Channel, where he not only showcases his innate talent but also spreads kindness to others through his impactful content.
Crafting Mastery and Connection
The road wasn’t without its challenges. Hard work and consistency, as he attests, were his allies. “As universally understood, nothing is truly free. I dedicated myself to diligent effort, maintaining consistency, and gradually acquiring knowledge. I embraced the trial-and-error approach, recognizing that practice is essential for excellence in any endeavor”, states Alex. He looked to YouTube tutorials and the works of renowned photographers, finding inspiration to fuel his growth.
Alex’s interaction with clients was a blend of rapport and understanding. Conversations weren’t just about rates and packages; they were about building bridges of trust. Quality superseded quantity, and every photograph delivered spoke volumes about his commitment. “In order to make the client satisfied I make sure that quality is delivered instead of quantity at a good amount of given time period”. For Alex the journey didn’t end with the click; it extended into ensuring the clients’ satisfaction until the final package was delivered.

In a world brimming with photographers, what set Alex apart was his signature style—framing, lighting, and editing. His images weren’t just snapshots; they were visual symphonies resonating with his artistic soul. “I especially shoots wedding, portraits, and events and I believe that my specialty or my signature style would be my framing style, editing and the lighting. As evident from my Instagram page, my photography style is showcased, allowing others to connect with and comprehend it”. This signature style was a reflection of who he is as a photographer and what he wished to convey through his images.
Teamwork and Growth
The complexity of photography, especially in events like weddings, made him appreciate the strength of teamwork. “I would prefer to work in a team as it would reduce the risk and burden, as especially in a wedding photography one person is not enough to capture every moment so it’s better to work in a team” says Alex. Collaborating with fellow photographers not only eased the burden but also expanded the creative horizon. Trust, transparency, and seamless communication became the cornerstones of a harmonious and productive team.
A Vision Beyond the Lens
The pursuit of excellence is etched into every frame he captures. “Details or elements like lighting, the rule of thirds, shapes, texture, pattern, framing, color and lines all together makes a good photograph”. All these elements weave its melody into his compositions. The software tools of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom are his companions in refining the raw captures into mesmerizing visuals.
Photography, for him, is an avenue of self-expression, creativity, and connection. Each photograph is a portal to emotions, memories, and stories that transcend time. When someone views his work, he wants them to feel the warmth and nostalgia, to treasure the fleeting moments.

He says “Being a photographer, I am proud that I could create beautiful memories for people around me. One advantage is that I could meet new people and make good relationship with them and also earn at the same time. And especially I’m proud that I could render my service to the people”.

Alex’s lens once captured a wedding that would forever touch his heart. “As a photographer I have many good memorable moments with my client’s but particularly, my emotions are stirred when I recall a wedding, I captured some years ago. Sadly, a year later, the client I worked with passed away, and this realization brings a sense of sorrow. But I believe that when their family members revisit the wedding photographs, they will fondly treasure the beautiful memories”. Among the chapters of his journey, he carries the memory of a poignant wedding – a wedding that echoes not just with celebration, but also with a touch of sadness. The bride and groom, forever etched in his photographs, found themselves in the embrace of his lens, even as time swept them away. In the wake of grief, Alex’s images became more than captures; they became lasting reminders of love and happiness.

Consequently, I’ve faced considerable difficulty in attempting to help them understand” says Alex. But amidst it all, his dedication never wanes.
