Rebecca Jamir
Rebecca Jamir, who goes by the pseudonym Becky Jamir on Social media is a YouTuber and a Project Coordinator in an NGO that gives affordable education and medical help to economically weaker people. She uploaded her first YouTube video in February 2017. She loves cooking and back then when she started her channel there were not many content creators from Nagaland. She started taking videos of what she cooked, especially the Naga Cuisines that many don’t know about. But because of her work and other commitments, she could not upload her content on YouTube regularly. However now she is trying to dedicate her time both for her work and as well as creating content. It gives her great joy to read the comments from people when they try her recipe and tell her it came out well. She also loves serving the community by working at an NGO, it gives her immense satisfaction.
When we asked if creating content and making videos was what she wanted to do from the beginning she straight up said no. She never wanted to be active on the online platform. In fact, for almost 2 years, she didn’t show her face in her videos. But as she started getting support from the viewers, she took the courage to take it further.
What prompted her to start a cooking channel was the lack of Naga ingredients to cook authentic Naga food outside Nagaland. As she is also a residence in Delhi NCR, she faced the same challenge. That was the problem she wanted to solve, to teach people how to cook Naga recipes using minimum ingredients. She added “If you watch my videos, they are not sophisticated with a lot of ingredients that are difficult to procure. My idea is to present a simple, heart-touching, tasty recipe with less effort.” Her achievement from her channel is the love that she receives from her supporters online. Every comment that she gets on her videos is no less than any award.
Recently, she started making Naga pickles to sell online. Her current plan is to scale up this small business to give affordable, authentic, homemade pickles to people who stay away from their hometowns. She also has some more plans to expand her business. But they are still in the process and will surely share it with us once the blueprint is ready to be launched.
