Mr.Ngathingkhui Jagoi is a passionate journalist by profession, has a long experience associating with various newspapers-The Aja, The Imphal Free Press, Nagaland Post, Eastern Mirror in different capacities and the North East window magazine as associate editor.
Apart from writing and reporting Jagoi has versatile skills of a filmmaker. He has also directed and produced two documentary films- “The Dying Giant” and “Rising with Monoliths” wherein he narrates about carrying giant load called “Lengvei” which has become the dying art of the tangkhuls. The second documentary talks about how Tangkhul men raise their social status by erecting monoliths.He has also co-authored a coffee table book titled “Naga Culture- free Against the Odds” with Frans Welman published by Dev Publishers, New Delhi. Mr.Jagoi is currently working with the Asian News International (ANI)TV news agency.
His latest book “Grandma’s Treasure-I, The Hornbill Dance” by Ngathingkhui Jagoi is the first series of a collection of Tangkhul folktales. The book contains twelve folktales that were narrated to him as bedtime stories by his late grandmother. The stories talk about the creation of the world, mythical heroes who performed feats of valour and marrying princesses, animals possessing the spirit of men and vice versa, children sold or bartered in exchange of food and so on. The author intends to create a series of bedtime stories for today’s children to acquaint them of their culture. The book can also be used as a resource material for researchers of the oral cultural history of the Nagas.
